Dorothy Lory Obituary

Dorothy Esther Cameron Lory was born on May 16, 1938, to the late Mr. Jack Cameron and
Mrs. Jennie Mae Cameron. After a short illness, she quietly slipped away on March 3, 2024.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter/sister Shirley Cameron, (her grandsons)
Tysean Cameron, Tyrell Reynolds of New York City and a special cousin Ronnie Cameron of the
home and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
At an early age Dorothy received Jesus Christ as her Lord savior at Bethel AME Church, where
she remained a faithful member throughout her life.  The Bethel AME Community School,
Carver High School and Morris College she also attended Teachers College at Columbia
University. After college, Dorthy moved to New York City where she was an employee of Grant
Day Care Centre.  Dorothy worked for Grant Day Care Centre for over thirty years until
retirement. During her long and illustrious career as an educator, Mrs. Lory touched many lives.
Children were the love of life, and they gravitated toward her winning personality.  She was an
outstanding storyteller and could hold children's attention for hours.
Dorothy's home in New York was the family home where family and friends would meet, greet,
eat and talk about the family and the good old times in the Camerontown community.  Upon her
return to Camerontown, she was a dedicated member of Bethel AME Church and was an ardent
member supporting the Church programs especially Bethels Mother’s Day Queen Program.
Dorthy embraced all who touched her with a profound and gentle love. Her life was a testament
to the power of compassion and tenderness. Known for her resilience, love, empathy and
unmatched patience, Dorothy was a beacon of warmth and strength. Her devout reverence for the
Lord and unwavering commitment to family defined her character. She lived a life deeply rooted
in family values, embodying the essence of a true matriarch. Dorothy's generosity knew no
bounds. Never ungrateful, greedy, or selfish, she epitomized selflessness. To those who knew
her, she was one of the most giving souls. Dorothy enjoyed life to the fullest and she will be
deeply missed by family, friends and the entire Camerontown Community. Rest in Peace Dot!
The Family of Dorothy Lory are thankful and grateful to everyone for their acts
