Gene Gamble was born on March 31, 1950 to The Late Reverend John Gamble Sr. & Veola Gamble. He was the 2nd eldest to 7 children.
In his early years, Gene affectionately known as “Tubby” attended the Florence County public schools. he met his sweetheart Doris Green Burgess while attending Carver High School. He graduated in the class of 68.
After graduation, Gene relocated to New Jersey where he attended Job Corps. He gained employment with several companies such as Merrill Lynch, Genesis lighting and The Topco Co. Gene was a union delegate. He wanted to ensure everyone was aware of their rights and passionately encouraged everyone to vote. Gene was also the Secretary with the United Steelworkers of America.
Gene attended Holy Tabernacle Church under the leadership of The Late Bishop Robert Green where he was baptized in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He remained a member of the now Greater Holy Tabernacle Church where the Pastor is The Honorable Bishop Dr. Shelvis Green Sr.
In 1972 he reunited with his HS Sweetheart and married on May 4th this union lasted for 40 years & they had 3 children. Gene was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Doris Gamble, brothers John Jr. & Joseph Singletary, sisters Catherine Frazier , Idarie Davis & Magalene Singletary
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Twanda ( Pastor Anthony Yarber), Corey Gamble and Yolanda ( Deacon Rufus Murchison). His sister Valoree Collins, 5 sister in laws, 3 brother in laws, 4 grandsons Preston, Malcolm, Elijah & Myles, 4 godchildren Linda, Vanessa, Joshua & Darnell and a host of nieces, nephews and those who affectionately called him “Pop”
