Marcelia Shields, the daughter of the late Lucille
Shields, was born on September 10, 1920 and departed
this life on September 2, 2021.
In her earlier years, Marcelia attended Olive Grove
Baptist Church, Coward, SC. Until her departure from
this earthly vessel, she was a member of Greater St.
James AME Church, Lake City, SC, where the pastor is
Reverend Richard Crummy.
In addition to her life, Marcelia reared her children,
grandchildren as far as three generations. She was a
care giver. She provided for her family and friends. She
loved fishing, working in her yard and loved to sight see.
Marcelia had the ability to relate to all people. She
spoke with clarity and boldness.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Richard
Brown, Author Jones and Nick Spates; one sister-in-law
Clarasene Spates, one son Bobby Smith, one daughter
Dale Shields and a grandson Eric Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons:
Nathaniel Shields of Teaneck, NJ and Russel Shields of
Lake City, SC; a daughter, Merklee Taylor of Teaneck,
NJ; grandchildren she reared in the home: Nedra Smith
and Barbara (Gerald) Graham both of Lake City, SC,
William (Loretta) Smith of Scranton, SC and Fredrick
(De) Smith of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, great
grands and great-great grands; special friends: Mary
Green, Willie Johnson (Black) and Keisha Burgess; a
host of relatives and friends.
