Obituary
Mother Mary Lee Sumpter 91, daughter of the late Ward and
Cellia Sumpter was born September 12, 1931, in Georgetown County,
South Carolina. She entered in eternal rest on October 19, 2022 in Blue
Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown, South Carolina after a brief
illness. Mary Lee was united in Holy matrimony to the late Liston
Sumpter. She was preceeded in death by her sister, Rozena Sumpter,
four brothers, Moses, Ward Jr., Peter, Stanley Sumpter and a daughter-
in-law, Daisy Sumpter.
At an early age she joined Walker Chapel F W B Church. Later in
her life she moved her membership to Pleasant View Free Will Baptist
Church until her death. She became a Mother of the church in the early
80's. Mary Lee enjoyed cooking, gardening and had a good spirit of
taking care of family and others.
Memories of Mary Lee will be cherished by those who shared her
love, her five children, Roscoe Sumpter of Columbia South Carolina,
Don (Evelyn) Sumpter Jersey City, New Jersey, Horace (Marcia)
Sumpter, Norwalk, Connecticut, Ezikel and Barbara Jean Sumpter both
of the home, two brothers, Thomas, and James (Mary) Sumpter of
Durham, North Carolina, three sister-in-laws, Almina Sumpter, Bessie
Sumpter, Annie Ruth Sumpter all of Durham, North Carolina, eight
Grand children, thirteen great grand children, nieces, nephews, and
other relatives and friends.
