Rosa Davis Obituary

Reverend Doctor Rosa Lee Davis (Lewis) was born
in Hemingway, South Carolina to the late Albert Lewis
and the late Susan Lewis on February 1, 1941. She
departed this life on May 22, 2021.
Reverend Rosa attended Gibbs High School in
Pamplico, South Carolina. She left high school to marry
her late husband Rufus McKinley Davis, Jr. in November
1958. They were wed in Newark, New Jersey where they
also resided and began their family. This blessed union
produced four children (3 daughters, 1 son); seven
grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a host of adopted
sons/daughters. In 1969, they moved to Willingboro,
New Jersey to provide a better environment for their
family. Rosa Davis received Christ Jesus at an early age
in church but rededicated her life to Christ as an adult in
1976. She became a member of Tabernacle Baptist
Church in Burlington, New Jersey, where the pastor was
the late Reverend Richard W. Jones.
Reverend Doctor Rosa Davis was an ardent believer
in education and higher learning. Leaving high school to
get married she later returned to school in New Jersey
where she earned her GED. She would later continue her
educational studies by also obtaining her Associates
Degree from Burlington County College, Bachelor’s
Degree in Biblical Theology, Master’s Degree and
 
Honorary Doctorate Degree in Biblical Studies &
Theology. Besides being a student, she became a
passionate teacher of the Word of God both in her church,
in weekly neighborhood biblical studies and served as
Dean of Manna Bible Institute in Mount Holly, New
Jersey for approximately two decades. In the final years
of her life, she relocated back to her hometown of
Hemingway, South Carolina and joined Bethlehem AME
Church where she served as Associate Pastor and an adult
bible study teacher.
Reverend Doctor Rosa Davis was preceded in death
by her parents, Albert and Susan Lewis; her mother and
father-in-law, Rufus and Magdeline Davis, and her
husband, Rufus McKinley Davis, Jr. She was also
preceded in death by her four brothers: Samuel Lewis,
George Lewis, Jesse Lewis, and Walter Lewis; one sister:
Nellie M. McGill; four brothers-in-law: Howard Davis,
Charles Davis, Benny Davis, Bernard Davis and one
sister-in-law: Mary Francis Davis.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories three
daughters and one son, Rosalind Davis of Hemingway,
South Carolina, Sharon Andria Davis-Crocker of Mt.
Laurel, New Jersey, Minister Twanda Everta Davis, RN
of Hemingway, South Carolina, and Minister Kenneth
Leon Davis, Esquire (Angelia) of Mauldin, South
Carolina. Seven precious grandchildren, Lawrence Davis
(Maple Shade, New Jersey), Raechel Nicole Crocker (Mt.
 
Laurel, New Jersey), Ja’Kayla Ramie Davis
(Simpsonville, South Carolina), Adrele Mila’ Davis
(Simpsonville, South Carolina), Dajore Mikel Davis
(Lumberton, New Jersey), Keishar Assante Davis
(Mauldin, South Carolina), Aaron Crocker (Mt. Laurel,
New Jersey). One great granddaughter (Neveayah
Davis). Her sisters Ida Adebogun of Brooklyn, New
York, Carrie M. Scott (Floyd) of Manhattan, New York
and Mary L. Lewis-Jones of Rochester, New York. Two
brothers-in-law, Edward Davis Sr. (Jacqueline) of
Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Frederick Davis
(Jestine) of Hemingway, South Carolina. Four sisters-in-
law, Jacquelyn Davis of Florence, South Carolina, Stella
Lewis of Newark, New Jersey, Alzada Davis of Malone,
Florida, and Mary Nash Davis of Hemingway, South
Carolina. Several surrogate children, Joe Wilson
(Lillian), Arlene Perry, Lorraine Davis, Carolyn Powell,
Derrick Robertson, and NaTasha McGill. Three
godchildren Olissa Page, Raheem Perry, and Anthony
Curry and several surrogate children; a host of uncles,
aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and special friends and
loved ones.
