Saul Edward Lewis Jr., son of the late Saul Emory and the late Hester Davis Lewis, was born in Hemingway, South Carolina on May
11, 1950, the third of ten children. Saul made his earthly departure on Friday, July 30, 2021.
In his early childhood, Saul became a member of Bethlehem A.M.E. Church in Johnsonville, South Carolina, and accepted Christ as
his Savior. He truly enjoyed fellowshipping with the members of his church. He made special efforts to attend as many of the
morning and afternoon services as he possibly could. Saul prouded himself as being the very first drummer for Bethlehem Junior
Choir. He was Chairperson of the Trustee Board, Sons of Allen Choir, and an avid doorkeeper for the House of the Lord.
Saul, affectionately known as ‘Sauly,’ grew up in the Muddy Creek community. He faithfully worked with his parents yearly during
harvest season. Saul received his high school diploma from Chavis School in 1968. Saul’s employment history included: Western
Auto, DuBose Dying Company, Wellman Manufacturing Company, Industrial Contractors, and Richardson Electrical Contractors.
His favorite pastimes were spending time with his grandchildren, listening to gospel music and watching sports on television. He
enjoyed reminding anyone who would listen that he was the ‘Best Fish Fryer in all of the Carolinas,’ not to mention the “King of
Wings’ at the annual Lewis Christmas Shindig. He would also remind anyone who would listen that he was a die hard North
Carolina Tar Heels fan and faithful Raiders fan.
On August 15, 1973, Saul was united in Holy Matrimony to Patsy Gordon. With this union, they were blessed with six children.
Saul was preceded in death by his parents, Saul & Hester Lewis, two siblings, and his brother in law, Robbie Stephens, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife, Patsy; six children, Gloria (Reace) Shird, Natasha (Rodney) Davis, Kimyada
